Picket Fencing
Picket fencing gives you a boundary without closing the garden in. We build ours to measure rather than dropping in off-the-shelf panels, so the pale spacing, height and post caps suit the property. Ideal for front gardens, cottage boundaries and dividing spaces inside a larger garden, and it can be left natural, stained or painted to whatever finish you want.
Picket fencing, made to measure
Picket fencing is the one people choose because they want the garden to look open rather than closed in. It marks a boundary, keeps a dog or a child on the right side of it, and still lets you see out and the light through.
We make picket fencing to measure rather than fitting standard panels, which matters more than it sounds. Front gardens are rarely a neat multiple of anything, and a made-to-measure run means the spacing stays even the whole way along instead of ending in a narrow off-cut against the wall.
Traditional and modern profiles
Round-top and pointed pickets are the traditional look and suit a cottage or period frontage. Square-topped pickets, spaced a little wider and often painted, sit better against a modern house. We will bring the options to the site visit so you can see them against your own brickwork rather than guessing from a photograph.
Heights and spacing
Picket fencing is usually somewhere between knee height and waist height at the front of a house. The gap between pickets is yours to choose: closer together for privacy and to keep a small dog in, wider apart for a lighter, more open look. Both are made the same way, so it is purely what you want it to look like.
Painted or left natural
Pressure-treated timber can be left to weather to a soft grey, or painted. If you want it painted we can build it in a timber that takes paint well and prepare it properly, which is the difference between a finish that lasts and one that flakes after a wet winter.
Matching gates
Almost every picket run wants a gate in it, and we make those to match at the same time, from the same timber, with the same picket profile and spacing. Hung on proper hinges with a latch that still works in a year.
